Scope and Contents

The John Howell Books Literary File Photography Collection consists of 99 items (98 photographic prints and 1 half-tone brochure), dating from 1915 to 1983, the bulk of which date to the late 1970s and early 1980s. The images are chiefly of Warren Howell, but a few also include his wife Antoinette. Two images (986:0040:0002 and 986:0040:0005) are of Warren's father John Howell, the founder of the business. Additional photographs were made at a ceremony honoring Warren Howell's career in the antiquarian book trade, and some of these depict former Ransom Center director Decherd Turner. The photographic prints are accompanied by a descriptive list, filed at the beginning of Box 1.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
