Scope and Contents

The Sinclair Lewis Literary File consists of 2,621 items, largely contained in seven albums. The images in six of the albums form a chronological depiction of Lewis' life and travels from 1912 to 1927, the years of his relationship with his first wife Grace Hegger. The seventh album contains images of life at Twin Farms, Lewis' home with his second wife Dorothy Thompson, in circa 1943. The file includes portraits of Lewis, Grace, and their son Wells among the loose prints as well as in the albums. An index at the end of this guide lists photographers whose work is featured in this file. Further descriptions of some items may be available in a card catalog in the repository.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
