The collection consists of

by
Professor Shivers for his three bio-bibliographical works on the
playwright.
This collection of research material on American playwright
Maxwell Anderson was compiled by Prof. Alfred S. Shivers of Stephen F. Austin
State University in preparing his three bio-bibliographical works on Anderson.
The collection is arranged in three series: Series I. Correspondence, Series
II. Research Material, and Series III. Transcripts of Interviews.
The correspondence in Series I. consists primarily of
Anderson's immediate and extended family members, as well as his former
students and theater colleagues. Series II. contains research material, listed
in the order in which Shivers arranged the folders. Included are personal
papers, family memoirs, photographs, and Anderson's 1956 oral history
interview. The last series contains transcripts of interviews with family
members and friend Lotte Lenya, among others.
Interview tapes and a video tape of Anderson's home movies,
received with the collection, have been transferred to the Ransom Center's
Sound Recordings and Photography and Film Department respectively.
