Title:
T. Fisher (Thomas Fisher) Unwin Collection
Dates:
1851-1925, undated
Extent:
2 boxes (.84 linear feet)
Abstract:
Includes chiefly letters written to the British publisher T. Fisher Unwin concerning
publishing matters. Correspondents include J. M. Barrie, Richard Garnett, William
Ewart Gladstone, Joseph Pennell, and many others. Some letters react to Olive Schreiner’s
Trooper Peter Halket of Mashonaland (1897) and some to Somerset Maugham’s first novel, Liza of Lambeth (1897), while other letters reflect Unwin’s pro-Boer connections or his interest
in mountaineers. A few items appear to date from Unwin’s earlier employment with Hodder
& Stoughton, Ltd.
