Abstract:
This collection consists of literary papers
collected by editor and publisher Tom Maschler. Included are typescripts and correspondence
with Doris Lessing, Ian McEwan, John Fowles, Anita Brookner, Arnold Wesker, and a
group of
other British writers who were referred to as the "Angry Young
Men".
This collection consists of literary papers collected by editor and publisher Tom
Maschler.
Included are typescript short stories and related materials prepared for Doris Lessing’s
second collection, The Habit of Loving (1957), edited by Maschler, as
well as correspondence with Doris Lessing, Anita Brookner, Carson McCullers, and Ian
McEwan.
Also present are materials relating to the film adaptation of John Fowles's novel
The French Lieutenant's Woman from when Maschler worked as John
Fowles's publisher and associate producer of the film. This part of the collection
also
contains multiple drafts of the screenplay and extensive correspondence, including
significant correspondence written by Fowles to Maschler. Additionally, there are
papers relating to Arnold Wesker and a group of other British Writers who were
referred to as the "Angry Young Men".
