The Ransom Center’s Watergate Collection contains manuscript drafts, correspondence,
notes, photographs, and ephemera that were acquired separately from the Bob Woodward
and Carl Bernstein Watergate Papers and Benjamin C. Bradlee Papers. The collection
includes two incomplete drafts of All the President’s Men, referred to as the second intermediate and third intermediate drafts because they
appear to fall in between the intermediate and late drafts present in the Woodward
and Bernstein Papers. The second intermediate draft consists of original typescripts
and carbons, and the third intermediate draft consists of photocopies of the original
typescripts; both are heavily annotated with revisions in various hands.
Other items present in the collection are a file of correspondence regarding Nixon
Administration official Egil "Bud" Krogh, Jr.’s status as a member of the Washington State Bar Association, including
a letter from the Watergate Special Prosecution Force describing his conduct at trial
and several letters supporting Krogh’s reinstatement to the bar; notes from Bob Woodward’s
2007 interview with William D. "Bill" Dunlap, Nixon’s assistant Postmaster General; a photograph of Ben Bradlee; an issue
of the New York Daily News from 1973 with a cover story on the Nixon tapes; a Watergate coloring book; and a
notebook created by Jury Foreman John A. Hoffar containing trial documents, notes,
and clippings.
Related Material
The Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein Watergate Papers and the Benjamin C. Bradlee Papers
at the Ransom Center contain additional material related to Watergate.
