The Robert Payne Literary File Photography Collection consists of 265 items, mostly
photographs associated with Payne's books: The Island, Lawrence of Arabia, The Life and Death of
Lenin, Lost Treasures of the Mediterranean World, and
Splendor of Greece. Subjects include Greek and Roman
Classical statues, mosaics and decorative arts, and archaeological sites around the
Mediterranean. An index at the end of this guide lists photographers whose work is
featured
in this file. Further descriptions of some items may be available in a card catalog
in the
repository.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised
of
photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures,
and
generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
