      <head>Scope and Contents</head>
      <p>Dr. 
		  <persname>J. Michael Lennon</persname>, Emeritus Vice President and
		  Emeritus Professor of English at Wilkes University, is 
		  <persname>Norman Mailer</persname>'s official biographer and literary
		  co-executor. He is a founding member and first president of the 
		  <corpname>Norman Mailer Society</corpname> and maintained a close
		  personal relationship with Mailer for more than thirty years. Lennon has
		  published widely on Mailer, including (with 
		  <persname>Donna Pedro Lennon</persname>), 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">Norman Mailer: Works and Days</title> ( 
		<date>2000</date>), and edited several of Mailer's works, including 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">Pieces and Pontifications</title> ( 
		<date>1982</date>), 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">Conversations with Norman Mailer</title> ( 
		<date>1988</date>), 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">The Spooky Art: Some Thoughts on Writing</title> (
		
		<date>2005</date>), and 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="italic" xlink:href="">On God: An Uncommon Conversation</title> (

      <p>Lennon’s collection of Mailer correspondence consists of eight folders
		  of outgoing and incoming letters with Mailer. Carbons and photocopies of
		  Lennon’s letters to Mailer date from 
		  <date>1971</date> to 
		  <date>1993</date> and include Lennon’s first letter to Mailer regarding
		  Mailer’s appearance with 
		  <persname>Gore Vidal</persname> and 
		  <persname>Janet Flanner</persname> on 
		<title xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:type="simple" render="doublequote" xlink:href="">The Dick Cavett Show,</title><date>December 2, 1971</date>. Original typed and handwritten letters
		from Mailer to Lennon date from 
		<date>1972</date> to 
		<date>1993</date> and contain Mailer’s comments on his literary and
		personal activities. </p>
