advance notice. Negatives cannot be accessed without curatorial approval. Light
sensitive materials must be viewed under low-level lighting. Some materials may be

Scope and Contents
The collection consists of photographs from the papers of author Norman Mailer. Included
are eight contact sheets and one enlargement of portraits of Mailer, and a
photographic postcard by Diane Arbus. Also included are 15 contact sheets of
portraits of Mailer taken by Richard Avedon. The collection is arranged by
photographer.
This collection forms a part of the Literary File Photography Collection, which is
comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of
literary figures, and generally include portraits and images collected by or of
those figures.
