Description:

Photograph album originally compiled by Sir Henry Crichton, with at least two later additions by an unknown person. The album contains 164 albumen prints, 3 platinum prints, and 2 gelatin silver prints, most of which are mounted, but several are tipped in. The photographs are a mixture of portrait photographs, and views of architecture, sailing, landscapes and cityscapes in England (71), France (38), Ireland (11), India (7), Switzerland (4), Italy (2) and Scotland (2). A number of the portrait photographs are of Crichton family members, posed both formally and informally, other portrait photographs are of military groups, including the 10th Royal Hussars, several of which Henry Crichton appears. The photographers of most photographs are unknown, a few are credited to J. Batemann of Canterbury (1), Boissonnas of Geneva (6), Chancellor of Dublin (1), J. F. Church (3), Henri Claudet (1), Francis Frith (3), Jabez Hughes (1), L. W. (2), C. N. (2), Syndey W. Newbery of London (2), Photographic Warehouse of Paris (3), A. Rapp of Southampton (1), J. Saché (1), Smale & Son of Dartmouth (1), James Valentine (1), G. W. Wilson (1), Window & Grove (1).
