Description:

The collection consists of photographs and an album belonging to journalist, art critic, and author Anita Brenner (American, born in Mexico, 1905-1974). There are 198 loose prints (2014:0025:0001-0198), many of which are by and/or attributed to Tina Modotti (Italian and American, 1896-1942) and/or Edward Weston (American, 1886-1958). Other photographers' work is represented in the collection and includes three photographs by Manuel Alvarez Bravo (Mexican, 1902-2002) and two by Hugo Brehme (German, 1882-1954, active in Mexico). Most works date to the 1920s and are of various Mexican works of art and decorative arts. The album (2014:0026:0001-0243) contains mounted and tipped in photographs as well as 18 laid in photographs of life and people in Mexico.
