Description: |
The collection consists of approximately 1,000 visual works by Helmut Gernsheim (German, 1913-1995). Subjects include: early student work; portraits; commercial photography, including exhibition prints; architecture and architectural detail, including Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Hampton Court Palace; art reproductions of sculpture and architectural details, including Westminster Cathedral; still-life photographs; nature; landscapes; Binter’s Marionette Theatre in Munich; and Joseph Nicéphore Niépce's home in Chalon-sur-Saône (964:0000:0005-0007) and of monuments to him (964:0000:0008-0010). The photographs, which include gelatin silver prints, 9 x 12 inch glass negatives, 120 film negatives, and posters with mounted photographs, all date from between 1940 and 1960. |
