Description:

John Benjamin Dancer (British, 1812-1887) was an optician and photographic inventor who pioneered microphotography and stereography. The collection is comprised of experimental photographs of subjects including family, landscape, and others. The images were photographed by Dancer and various others. The collection contains 315 photographs, including 60 microphotographs, 57 daguerreotypes, 65 card stereographs, 1 daguerreotype stereoscopic photograph, 46 glass stereographs, 27 ambrotypes, 12 glass negatives, 3 glass positives, 1 collodion print on opal glass, 7 calotypes, 1 woodburytype, 3 carbon prints, 3 platinum prints, 4 silver prints, 7 albumen cartes-de-visite, 2 albumen cabinet cards, 4 albumen prints, 4 photogravures, 7 silhouettes, 1 painted albumen print, ephemera, equipment, and papers. Additional Dancer material is located in the Gernsheim collection.
