Description: |
The collection consists of twenty-one pages of photocollages (albumen prints, watercolor, ink, and pencil) from a disbound album that belonged to (and was most likely made by) the Charlotte (Stracey) Milles (1837-1927). The majority of photocollages are composed of photographic portraits of family members and friends "placed" into watercolor landscapes, seascapes, and house interiors. Identified individuals include: Col. Atherley, the Duke of Athole, the Countess of Bective, Capt. Gambier, Blanche Hall, H. and Mrs. Harbord, George Harris, Lady Hastings, the Lees Court Eleven (cricket team), Viscount and Viscountess Malden, Harry Milles, Mary Georgiana Milles (1859-1908), Mrs. Milles, Lewis Milles, Mrs. Pemberton, the Prince and Princesses of Wales and their children, Queen Victoria, Lord and Lady Sondes, Gilbert and Mrs. Stracey, Fanny Stracey, Col. Henry Stracey, and Viscount St. Vincent. Most portraits are identified. The original album cover is lacking. |
