Description: |
Langlois, Édouard. Album-Guide Illustre International: Listes d’Hotels, etc.. Nice: Imprimerie V.-Eug. Gathier & Co., 188-?] (Sl: sn, 1886). The photographically illustrated book, produced under the direction of Alfred Brocas, contains text by Edouard Langlois (in both French and English), 52 mounted albumen prints, and several mounted color lithographs. The photographs are landscape and cityscape views of England, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Monaco, which complement the descriptive text, author’s recommendations, and advertisements for everything from hotels to pharmacists to realtors to photographers. Photographers credited under their images are: Busin (1), Alb. Courret (17), Debenham & Co. (2), Debenham & Gould (1), Hawkin’s Photographic Studio (2), W. (William) Heath (1), W. Palmer (1), and T. Bennett & Son (1). The other 26 photographs can probably be attributed to several photographers who are either recommended by the guide, and/or are represented by an advertisement in the guide. These photographers are: Numa Blanc fils, Robert Cox, Cox and Durrant, G. Echtler, Hughes and Mullins, Mouret, and Twiss & Son. Printed titles follow. |
