Description:

Set of photographic albums, titled Dans l’Intime de Personages Illustres (Paris: Editions M.D., circa 1945-1951), produced by Maurice Devriès (French, active 1940s). Each album contains approximately 30 mounted photogravure copy portrait prints made from earlier images dating from 1845 to 1950. The portraits are of royalty and famous men and women in the arts, sciences, church, military and politics. Each portrait is accompanied with a biographical sketch written in French, and signed variously Pierre Marie Lizerolles, J. M. Dufrenoy, and Maurice Seirved. The Ransom Center holds three copies. Notes concerning each copy follows.

Copy 1 -- Complete set consisting of volumes 1-12;.
Copy 2 -- Incomplete set consisting of volumes 1, 5, and 11 only. The photographs in volume 1 appear to be toned orange;
Copy 3 -- Incomplete set consisting of volumes 1-9 only. The photographs in volume 1 appear to be toned orange.
