Published album in four volumes, titled Illustrations of China and its people: a series of two hundred photographs with letterpress descriptive of the places and people represented, with text and photographs by John Thomson, F.R.G.S. Published by Sampson Low, Marston Low, and Searle, of London, 1873 (volumes 1 and 2) and 1874 (volumes 3 and 4). Printed for Chiswick Press by Whittingham and Wilkins, Tooks Court, Chancry Lane. The albums actually contain a total of 219 collotypes which are divided as follows: volume 1 contains 48 images on 26 plates; volume 2 contains 63 images on 24 plates; volume 3 contains 51 images on 24 plates; volume 4 contains 57 images on 24 plates.
