Description:

Four bound volumes containing photographs of antiquities in the British Museum. The photographs, all albumen prints, are by W. A. Mansell & Co. (British, active 1860s-1900s), and nearly all are accompanied by published text mounted on the page with them. Each leaf of the albums contains four diagonal slits into which the corners of each photograph is inserted. Each text panel includes an image or plate number, a brief description and date of the object(s) pictured, and in some cases the provenance of the object(s). Brief descriptions of each volume follow. Each volume contains sequentially numbered photographs, although there are many gaps in each sequence.

[Volume I] -- 98 inserted photographs and 12 laid-in photographs for plate numbers ranging from 1 to 295;
[Volume 2] -- 98 inserted photographs for plate numbers ranging from 296 to 490;
[Volume 3] -- 95 inserted photographs for plate numbers ranging from 491 to 765;
[Volume 4] -- 98 inserted photographs and 8 laid-in photographs for plate numbers ranging from 766 to 1033.
