Description: |
Photographically illustrated book, in two volumes, titled Illustrations to Tennyson’s Idylls of the King, and Other Poems (London: Henry S. King, 1875), and containing photographs by Julia Margaret Cameron (British, 1815-1879). The 26 plates are mounted albumen photographs, each with a descriptive caption and the autograph of the photographer. The frontispieces (portraits of Tennyson in monk's garb) are autographed by Alfred Tennyson (British, 1809-1892). Each plate is accompanied by a leaf of text from Idylls of the King in a facsimile of the poet's hand. Dedication of part 1 is dated "Xmas 1874." Volume 1 contains the bookplate of Henry Oppenheim. |
