Photographically illustrated album titled Portraits and Photographic Studies All from Life. Photographs by Julia Margaret Cameron. Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight, England: Commenced year 1864. Printed at the head of the title on the album cover: Given to Annie Thackeray by her friend Julia Margaret Cameron. The album, which measures 37 x 27.5 cm, contains a handwritten note by Cameron that reads: Fatal to Photographs / Are Cups of tea and Coffee / Candles & Lamps, / & Children's fingers! Inside the front cover is the illustrated bookplate of Anne Isabella Ritchie. There are original handwritten captions throughout by Cameron, Ritchie (?), and Helmut Gernsheim; also many autographs by the subjects including Alfred Lord Tennyson, G. F. Watts, and Thoby Prinsep. |
