Album, titled Kashmir, Gwalior, &c., containing 56 albumen photographs dating to circa 1865. 29 photographs are by the English photographer Samuel Bourne (1834-1912); 9 2 photographs are by the English photographic studio Shepherd & Robertson (act. 1860s); 9 photographs are unsigned, but bear negative numbers similar to Bourne’s; and 16 photographs bear no signature or negative number for identification, 5 of which have been attributed to the English photographer Charles Shepherd (act. ca. 1860s-1885). Subjects include Indian portraits, rivers, canals, cityscapes, mountain streams, Himalayan views, temples, forts, sculpted rocks, and palaces. Cities represented are Kashmir, Gwalior, Shimla, Agra and Benares. |
