Description: |
A set of 105 gelatin silver stereographs that were published by the H. C. White Company (American, active 1890s-1910s). The copyright dates of the images range from 1901 to 1909. The stereographs are contained in a case made to look like two books. On each "spine" of the case is printed "Including the / OFFICIAL / SERIES" and "REALISTIC / TRAVELS / LONDON". Paper labels adhered to each "spine" are inscribed "AROUND / The WORLD". Each print is mounted on a curved card printed with various combinations of numbers, captions and descriptions. The photographers responsible for all but one image are unknown. The exception is 964:0096:0097 which lists James H. Hare as the copyright holder. The stereographs primarily depict scenes within the United States; 24 depict scenes outside the United States. United States subjects include local and national parks, architecture and interiors, industry, agriculture, and the White House. International subjects include landscapes and cityscapes from Cuba, Central and South America, Belgium, China, Japan, Germany, Finland, and Russia. 964:0096:0001-0105 |
