Description:

The collection consists of one salted paper print from a calotype negative by J. Parris, titled "Garth near Welshpool." The photograph shows the south facade of a gothic hall which was located near Welshpool, Wales; the building has since been demolished. Stamped on the verso of the print is "Gernsheim Collection." The following three inscriptions also appear on the print verso:
"Herschel Sale: Calotype c. 1841 by J. Parris," by Helmut Gernsheim;
"Garth near Welshpool," by one unidentified person; and
"J. Parris," by a second unidentified person, perhaps Parris.
