Prose Masterpieces from Modern Essayists, comprising twelve unabridged essays by Irving, Lamb, de Quincey, Emerson, Arnold, Morley, Lowell, Carlyle, Macaulay, Froude, Freeman, and Gladstone; with twelve portraits in permanent photography. Two copies, each containing 12 album print plates. Plates from copy 1 have been removed and are housed separately. Portraits of Matthew Arnold, Thomas Carlyle, Ralph Waldo Emerson, James Anthony Froude, W.E. Gladstone, and James Russell Lowell are by Elliott & Fry. The portrait of John Morley is by London Stereoscopic Company. The portrait of Edward A. Freeman is by Frear, Ithaca, U.S.A. The portrait of Washington Irving, Charles Lamb, Lord Macaulay, and Thomas de Quincey are reproductions of works of art. |
