Description:

The collection, consisting of 891 photographs collected and/or printed by Margaret Harman, consists of four accessions that follow.

2000:0072:0001-0184:
184 original vintage prints including tintypes (22), gelatin silver prints, and postcards that were randomly collected over the years by the donor Margaret Harman. According to stamps on the verso of prints, these photographs were processed and printed in the following cities but not limited to Austin, Texas; San Francisco, California; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Springfield, Missouri. Subjects include Mexico, African Americans, snapshots of groups, families and individuals, the military, cemetery sites, funerals, formal portraits, cars, and unidentified tribal people. The bulk of this collection dates from the 1930s and 1940s. The prints are organized into 6 different groups: Vacation photos from Mexico ; Military ; Children ; African Americans ; Groups, Families, and Individuals; Miscellaneous ; Parade and Bands

2000:0074:0001-0528:
A total of 528 vintage gelatin silver negatives and modern contact prints of family snapshots. The negatives were made by an unidentified photographer(s) and came from an estate in Champagne-Urbana, Illinois. The modern contact prints were made by Margaret Harman.
The accession is organized into three groups: Original negatives and modern contacts prints, subjects include people, travel, wedding portrait, soldiers, and living room/sofa portraits ; modern contact prints, subjects include couples, children, and bride and groom ; negatives only, subjects include people, travel, places, Christmas, living room/sofa portraits, parades, and animals.
The subjects and titles on the envelopes were taken form the original photosleeves.

2000:0075:0001-0178:
178 color negatives (7 are 2 1/2” x 4 1/4” and the rest are 2” x 2”) of family snapshots. The people and places are unidentified. These come from an estate in Champagne-Urbana, Illinois. The photographer was also unidentified. The negatives document family Christmases from 1953-1960, family vacations from 1956-1961, a wedding (ca. late 1950s), and other unidentified events.

One original gelatin silver print mounted on board of an unidentified waterfall. It is from the travels of R. Niles Graham, the grandfather of M. G. Harman.
