Published volume by William Howitt (British, 1792-1879), titled Ruined Abbeys and Castles of Great Britain and Ireland (London: A. W. Bennett, 1864), from the second series, containing photomechanical reproductions of photographs and/or albumen prints by Stephen Thompson (British, 1830-1893), William Russell Sedgfield (British, 1826-1902), Thomas Ogle (British, 1813-1882), and William Despard Hemphill (Irish, 1816-1902). This copy, which is one of three held by the Ransom Center, is imperfect and is lacking 12 pages of text and 12 photographs. Published captions follow.
