Description:

Photographically illustrated book by Henry Scholey Saunders (Canadian, 1864-1951) entitled 100 Whitman Photographs (Ross, Calif.: H.S. Saunders, 1948), containing 101 mounted gelatin silver prints of Walt Whitman. From page [3] of the book: "This is a selection from my volume 'Whitman Portraits' including all the original photographs I have been able to collect, with a few more celebrated paintings, and one statue ... This volume is made entirely by hand, numbered and signed ... Copies are dated as made. First copies made in 1939". The portraits are all photographic prints, mounted on blank leaves, eight per leaf. From the back pastedown: "Bound by Henry S. Saunders, July 1948. No. 2747".
