Description:

The collection consists of 43 "Old Judge" photographic baseball cards produced for cigarette manufacturer Goodwin & Co. (New York, New York) between 1887 and 1890. Each card has an albumen print of a baseball player adhered to the front, with printed text below, and measures approximately 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches. These cards were originially part of an album which was heavily water-damaged. The cover was disposed of and each page was individually sleeved in Mylar and placed in a box by Conservation staff to faciliate safe access to the materials.
