Description:

The Aleksandr Fyodorovich Kerensky Literary File consists of 635 photographic prints, 4 negatives, and 1 transparency including images of Kerensky throughout his life, both alone and with others. There are some images of Kerensky during the Russian Revolution of 1917, but the bulk of the photographs date from the 1940s to the 1960s, during which time Kerensky lived in exile in the United States and lectured extensively. Also included are images of Kerensky's father Fyodor Kerensky, of his first wife Olga Lvovna Baranovskaya and their two sons, of his second wife Lydia Ellen (Nellé) Tritton, and of various other family members including his grandchildren. Additionally there is a group of 42 albumen prints of scenes from Tashkent and Samarkand (Uzbekistan) dating to circa 1882-1899. Some photographs have associated correspondence and notes in their folders. Other manuscript materials, including clippings, envelopes, and correspondence separated from their related prints, are at the end of Box 3 along with a list of captions and a page proof of illustrations from Kerensky's book Russia and History's Turning Point. All items are black and white unless otherwise noted. Many items have identifications in Russian.

Please consult finding aid for more detailed information and to page materials to the Reading and Viewing Room. Further descriptions of some items may be available in a card catalog in the repository.

This collection forms a part of the Literary File Photography Collection that is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
