The collection consists of 769 photographs, the majority of which are portraits taken by Carl Van Vechten (American, ). The portraits, which include himself and his wife Fania Marinoff, include notable figures of the twentieth century in literature, dance, theater, music, performing arts. Nearly all the photographs are by Van Vechten, and an index at the end of the finding aid lists the other photographers whose work is featured in this file. |
