Description:

Photographically illustrated book by Arthur Rimbaud (French, 1854-1891), entitled A Season In Hell (Saison en Enfer) (New York?:Limited Editions Club, 1986), translated by Paul Schmidt, and containing eight photogravures by Robert Mapplethorpe (American, 1946-1989). The book contains text in both French and English that appear on opposite pages. Per the colophon: "One thousand copies of this edition have been printed at Wild Carrot Letterpress". Contained in a slipcase, the Ransom Center's copy is number 91 and is signed by Paul Schmidt and Robert Mapplethorpe.

The Limited Editions Club published a separate portfolio, entitled A Season In Hell, of just the eight photogravures by Robert Mapplethorpe. The Ransom Center's library contains a copy of that publication which can be paged through call number q PQ 2387 R5 S3 1986b HRC-P.
