Description:

The collection consists of 265 items, most of which are photographs associated with books written by Robert Payne (American, born England, 1911-1983), specifically The Island (1958), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Life and Death of Lenin (1964), Lost Treasures of the Mediterranean World (1962), and Splendour of Greece (1961). Subjects include Greek and Roman classical statues, mosaics and decorative arts, and archaeological sites around the Mediterranean.
