Description:

The collection consists of a set of 99 stereographs (964:0128:0001-0099), published by Underwood & Underwood (New York & London), housed in a container labeled Palestine. Each stereograph is mounted on a curved card with a title and set number printed on the recto. Most cards have a longer narrative description printed on the verso, as well as the title printed in six languages. Scenes include cityscapes, landscapes, and prominent places, many from Biblical stories. The set was likely originally accompanied by a reference book with maps and descriptions, entitled Palestine through the Stereoscope, by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut and Charles Foster Kent, but the book is lacking from the Center's collection.
