Description:

Photographically illustrated book by George Henry Fox (American, 1846-1937), titled Photographic Illustrations of Skin Diseases (New York: E. B. Treat, 1889). The book contains 67 hand-colored collotypes of photographs taken by Edward Bierstadt (American, 1824-1907). From page 3: "The plates are made from photographic negatives taken from life. The Artotype reproductions of these negatives are the work of Mr. Edward Bierstadt, and the hand-coloring of the plates has been entrusted to the well-known medical artist, Dr. Joseph Gaertner." The Ransom Center holds two copies of this publication. This copy is inscribed: Geo. N. Monetto, M.D., New Orleans, La., March of [18]89, $20.
