Description:

Published book issued in two volumes, titled Poems (London: Macmillan, 1869), by Matthew Arnold (English, 1822-1888). The publication is known as the first collected edition, and it includes the First and Second series, 1853-1855, and the New poems, 1867. The publication is the author's inscribed presentation copy to Frederick Locker. The first volume includes a tipped in portrait photograph of Matthew Arnold by Elliott & Fry (British, active 1865-1908) that is inscribed: Transferred to Jane Lampson, 5 May 1874.
