Description:

Published volume, titled Walt Whitman the Man (New York: F. P. Harper, 1896), by Thomas Donaldson (American, 1843-1898). The Center holds four copies of the work, and this copy (cop.4) is the publisher's inscribed presentation copy to Warren C. Crane, dated March 21, 1897. It is also inscribed: Thomas Donaldson, April 30, 1897. The copy is an extra-illustrated copy issued in two volumes, in a binding by W. Pratt. The end of the second volume bears an inscription by W. C. Crane of New York, and it includes autographs and letters of Whitman associates, two inscribed fragments by Whitman, proofs of 20 Whitman poems, and 20 photographs, several of which are of Whitman.
