Brentano's	August Brentano founded his bookselling and publishing firm in New York in 1885. The firm went into receivership in 1933, and was broken up. Most of the publishing business was sold to Coward-McCann; rights in Brentano's publications of George Bernard Shaw were acquired by Dodd, Mead; the bookselling business was then reformed, and is now part of the Borders group. Brewer and Warren, Inc.	The publishing firm of Brewer and Warren, Inc. was established in 1930 in New York as the successor firm to Payson and Clarke (q.v.). In 1931, the firm changed its name to Brewer, Warren and Putnam, and in 1932 it was purchased by Harcourt, Brace & Company. Brewer, Barse and Company	Brewer, Barse and Company was a publishing house in Chicago. In 1909 the firm's founder William J. Barse moved to New York and founded Barse and Hopkins. See the FOB entry for Barse and Hopkins, which indicates that the firm went bankrupt in 1932 and its stock was acquired by Grosset & Dunlap. Broderip & Wilkinson	After the bankruptcy of the firm of Longman & Broderip in 1798, Francis Broderip and C. Wilkinson established the music publishing firm of Broderip & Wilkinson and reissued many of the Longman & Broderip titles. Francis Broderip died in 1807 and the firm continued briefly as Wilkinson & Co., before all its stock and plates were purchased by Thomas Preston. The Preston firm was purchased by Coventry & Hollier around 1834, and much of the business of Coventry & Hollier was purchased by Novello in 1849 and 1851. Browne and Nolan	The Irish publishing firm of Browne and Nolan was renamed Longmans, Browne and Nolan around 1969. Longmans, Browne and Nolan was incorporated into the Educational Company of Ireland (EDCO) around 1972. EDCO became a Jefferson Smurfit company and is now part of the Smurfit Kappa Group. Brown-ROA Publishers	The religious publishing house of Brown-ROA Publishers was acquired by Harcourt, Brace & Company in 1994. See the FOB entry for Harcourt, Brace. Calder & Boyars	Marion Boyars joined the firm of John Calder (Publishers) Limited in 1958, and in 1963 the firm became Calder & Boyars. Carroll & Graf	The publishing firm of Carroll & Graf was founded in 1982 by Kent Carroll and Herman Graf, and subsequently became an imprint of Avalon. Following the acquisition of Avalon by the Perseus Books Group in 2007, the Carroll & Graf imprint was closed down. See www.perseusbooks.com.	2008
Chapman and Hall Ltd	The publishing firm of Chapman and Hall was founded in 1830. The firm merged with Methuen in 1938. See Arthur Waugh: 'A hundred years of publishing: being the story of Chapman & Hall Ltd' (1930). With Methuen, Chapman & Hall subsequently became part of Associated Book Publishers.
