From the 1970s the firm concentrated on its food-service and newstand operations and had little to do with the book trade. In 1979 Ancorp was acquired by the French food-service company Sodexho. American Publishing Company	The American Publishing Company was founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1865, and became one of the most successful subscription publishing houses in the USA, with numerous subsidiary companies. In 1903 the firm was purchased by Harper & Brothers.
