Arms & ArmourArms & Armour was founded by Lionel Leventhal in 1966. In the 1980s ownership passed to Link House Books and then to United Newspapers. In 1986-87 Arms & Armour was purchased by Cassell from United Newspapers. Cassell was purchased by Hachette in 1998, and subsequently divided. See the FOB entry for Cassell.2008
Arno PressArno Press was founded in New York in 1962 by Arnold Zohn. The New York Times acquired a controlling interest in the firm in 1968 and purchased the rest of the firm in 1971. In the early 1980s the firm continued as part of Times Books but reduced its output, and in 1982 many of its titles were sold to Merrimack Book Service. See the FOB entry for Times Books, which indicates that the imprint was licensed to Random House from 1984 and then to the Henry Holt division of Macmillan since 2000. It appears that the Arno Press imprint was discontinued around 1984.2008

Arthur Barker LtdArthur Barker founded his publishing firm in 1932. In 1959 the firm was sold to Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Arthur L. HumphreysMr Arthur Lee Humphreys was a bookseller who also published books on an occasional basis from the 1890s to the 1930s. From about 1890 he was one of the proprietors of Hatchards and his books were mostly published from Hatchards' address at 187 Piccadilly, London. In 1924 he sold his interest in Hatchards (see 'The Times', 31 March 1924), but continued to publish occasionally, mostly his own writings, for another ten years or so. He died in 1946.2009
Ascherberg, Hopwood & CrewThe music publishing firm of Ascherberg, Hopwood & Crew was formed in 1906 by the merger of Eugene Ascherberg & Co. and Hopwood & Crew. Ashendene PressThe Ashendene Press was founded by C. H. St John Hornby in 1894 and remained in his personal ownership. The Ashendene Press went out of existence in 1935, after the publication of its 'Bibliography'. Hornby died in 1946.2008
