G. Putnam BroadwayThe publishing firm of G. Putnam Broadway was founded by George Palmer Putnam in 1848. On his death in 1872 the name of the firm was changed to G. P. Putnam's Sons. George Bell & Sons LtdGeorge Bell established his firm in London in 1839. From 1856 to 1875 the firm was known as Bell & Daldy; it then became George Bell & Sons Ltd. It remained a family firm until 1977, when it was sold to Robin Hyman and renamed Bell & Hyman Ltd. In 1986 Bell & Hyman Ltd merged with George Allen & Unwin to form Unwin Hyman. George Webb BookbindersThe firm of George Webb Bookbinders (including its wholly owned subsidiary Samuel Bagster & Sons Ltd) was sold to Marshall, Morgan and Scott in 1973. Marshall, Morgan and Scott merged with Pickering & Inglis in the mid-1980s to form Marshall Pickering. Golden BooksLittle Golden Books and Golden Books were a joint publishing venture between Simon & Schuster and Western Publishing founded in 1943. In 1958 Western Publishing bought out the Simon & Schuster share of the firm. In the 1980s Western Publishing changed its name to Golden Books Family Entertainment. GrassetBernard Grasset founded his publishing firm in Paris in 1907. In 1954 the firm was purchased by Hachette, although it retained editorial independence. Greenwillow BooksGreenwillow Books was founded in 1974 as an autonomous children's book division of William Morrow & Company. The founding editor was Susan Hirschman.
