| Robert O. Ballou | Robert O. Ballou was a journalist, editor and publisher. In 1932 he was briefly vice-president of the firm of Jonathan Cape and Robert Ballou. From 1932 to 1935 he ran his own publishing company, but he wound up the firm and went to work for other publishers including Jonathan Cape and then Viking Press. He died in 1977. | Samuel Bagster & Sons Ltd | The religious publishing firm of Samuel Bagster & Sons was founded around 1794. The firm was sold (as part of the assets of George Webb Bookbinders) to Marshall, Morgan and Scott in 1973. Marshall, Morgan and Scott merged with Pickering & Inglis in the mid-1980s to form Marshall Pickering. | Shepard, Clark and Brown | The publishing firm of Shepard, Clark and Company was founded in Boston in 1855 by Charles A. B. Shepard, H. A. Clark and E. C. Walker. In 1857 Walker was replaced by E. W. Brown and the company was renamed Shepard, Clark and Brown. It went out of business in 1859. Charles Shepard later became one of the founders of Lee and Shepard (q.v.).
