Times BooksThe UK firm of Times Books was established as a publisher of atlases and business books by the 1950s, although the first atlas commissioned by 'The Times' was published in 1895. Ownership of Times Books has changed with ownership of 'The Times', which is now part of News Corporation. See www.newscorp.com.2008
Tower BooksTower Books was an imprint of the World Publishing Company (q.v.). The imprint was introduced in 1939, mainly for books on self-help, hobbies and popular psychology. See 'Dictionary of Literary Biography' 46 (1986), pp. 386-390, and see the FOB entry for World Publishing Company, which indicates that the company name disappeared during the 1970s, when ownership of the firm was divided between Times-Mirror and William Collins.2008
Tower PublicationsTower Publications (also known as Tower Books, but not to be confused with the imprint of the World Publishing Company) was founded in New York in 1960. In 1969 Tower Publications purchased Belmont Books. The imprints at first continued separately but from 1973 they were merged as Belmont-Tower Books. Ullstein VerlagUllstein Verlag was founded by the Ullstein family in Berlin in 1903. In 1959 Ullstein Verlag was acquired by the Axel Springer group. From 2000 to 2003, Ullstein was part of the Axel Springer book division called Ullstein Heyne List. Ullstein Heyne List was broken up in 2003 and Ullstein was sold to Bonnier AB of Stockholm. W. A. Benjamin CompanyThe science publisher W. A. Benjamin was acquired by Addison-Wesley in 1970. Addison-Wesley was purchased by Pearson plc in 1988, and still forms part of the Pearson Group. W. B. SaundersThe publishing firm of W. B. Saunders was founded in Philadelphia in 1888 by Walter Burns Saunders. By the 1980s W. B. Saunders was operating as a joint imprint with Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (see the FOB entry for Harcourt, Brace & Company). Harcourt, Brace & Company was acquired by Reed Elsevier in 1998, and W. B. Saunders became part of Elsevier Health. After the sale of the Harcourt businesses in 2007-2008 W. B. Saunders remains part of Reed Elsevier.
