Walter H. Baker CompanyGeorge M. Baker purchased the play division of Herbert Sweet and Company (q.v.) in 1872 and renamed the firm George M. Baker and Company. Werner CompanyThe Werner Company was founded in Chicago in 1892 by Paul E. Werner. In 1897 the firm moved to Akron, Ohio. In 1902 the Werner School-Book Company was purchased by the American Book Company.
