Curwen PressThe music publishing firm of Curwen Press was founded by John Curwen (1816-1880) and was originally known as J. Curwen & Sons Ltd. In 1969 the firm was purchased by the US publishers Crowell, Collier & Macmillan. The new owners closed the London office of Curwen Press and divided the distribution rights between Faber Music and Robertson Publications. See the FOB entry for Crowell-Collier; H. D. and J. Sadleir and CompanyThe publishing firm of D. and J. Sadleir and Company was founded in New York in 1837 by the brothers Denis and James Sadleir. In 1895 the rights and plates of many of the firm's most important books were sold to P. J. Kenedy and in 1912 Kenedy purchased the rest of the firm's assets. E. J. Arnold & Son LtdE. J. Arnold & Son Ltd was founded in Leeds in 1863 and became a major firm of stationers, printers and publishers. In 1989 most of the firm was acquired by Nottingham Group plc and merged with Nottingham Educational Supplies to form NES Arnold. George W. Jacobs CompanyThe George W. Jacobs Company was established in Philadelphia in 1892. In 1925 the publishing operation of the Jacobs Company was purchased by Durant L. Macrae and Allan M. Gomme and MarshallThe publishing firm of Gomme and Marshall was founded in New York in 1915 by Laurence James Gomme and John J. Marshall. It was the successor firm to Vaughan and Gomme (q.v.). Marshall withdrew from the firm in 1916, and it continued as Laurence James Gomme, before Gomme closed the firm and ended his publishing career in 1917.
