World Publishing CompanyWorld Publishing Company had its origins in 1929 when Alfred Cahen bought World Syndicate Company and merged it with his own Commercial Bookbinding Company. The firm was first called World Syndicate Publishing Company and changed its name to World Publishing Company in 1940. The firm had two main publishing interests: Bibles and religious books and nonfiction reprints. In 1963 the firm was acquired by Times-Mirror and its name was gradually phased out of existence within Times-Mirror during the 1970s. In 1974 the firm's Bible and religious publishing interests were acquired by William Collins. Worthington CompanyRichard Worthington founded his publishing firm in Boston in 1867, and moved it to New York in 1874. The firm was originally called R. Worthington & Co., and became Worthington Company in 1885. The firm was forced into receivership in 1893 and closed in 1894.
