Description:

The Edward Larocque Tinker Collection is comprised of approximately 1,450 items including 1 box of slides, 1 over-size album covered in burlap, and 9 lantern slides. Photographs consist mainly of images of Revolutionary Mexico, New Orleans, and bullfighting. There are also many portraits of Tinker and his family. Miscellaneous items include a series on Ranch life, various photos of Latin America, sketches from books, a wax museum exhibit, and small cameo cases of family members. Also included in this collection are unaccessioned items which include 28 color matted/framed color prints, 16 gelatin silver prints, and one folder of loose 8x10 and 2 x 3 gelatin silver prints; nitrate negatives which number approximately 500.

Box 1 (958:0071:0001-0340)-- Many images of the west, both in the United States and Mexico; also included are family photos, newspaper clippings about Mrs. Tinker, and photos of a museum exhibit, “Horsemen of the Americas”.

Box 2 (958:0071:0341-0444): Tinker family photographs, pictorial record of General Pedro Eugenio Arumburu's (Provisional President of Argentina in 1959) visit, Oct.-Nov. 1959.

Box 3 (958:0071:0445-0524) -- Mostly images of the Mexican Revolution (Tinker rode with Obregon’s armies), along with some photos of the British Palace Guard, Lisbon and “Hemisfair 1968.

Box 4 (958:0071:0525-1001) -- Many images of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, including chimney sweeps and plantation houses.

Box 5 (958:0071:1002-1008) -- Mostly unidentified photos of Tinker’s family and friends.

Box 6 (958:0071:1009-1013) -- Miscellaneous photos of E.L. Tinker and others in costumes of the old west, and others.

Box 7 (958:0071:1014-1017) -- Miscellaneous photos of E.L. Tinker and others in costumes of the old west, and others.

Box 8 (958:0071:1018-1025) -- Box of cased images, five daguerreotypes, one ambrotype, and two unidentified, all studio portraits

Box 9 (958:0071:1026-1104) -- Slides of paintings and drawings of the west and Mexico; ranch life, horses, western/Spanish scenes

Box 10 (971:0003:0001-0067) -- All photos of Louisiana, mostly of New Orleans but including swampland and fishermen. Some photos of docks and boats elsewhere;
Box 11 (982:0025:0001-0079) -- Various dignitaries of the Mexican Revolution, along with photos of horses, and images of statues of horses and bulls. Also images of bullfights and some family snapshots

958:0403:0001-0068 -- Unpublished cartes-de-visite style album with green spine embossed with gold, plaid covers, and a gold-tone clasp. The album contains 67 albumen prints (carte-de-visite format) and 1 tintype. The cartes-de-visite are primarily portraits of men, women, and children,. Also included are a carte of the portico of Bourges Cathedral, a carte of an unidentified large public sculpture of lions, and a reproduction of a painting of the National Line steamship "Erin" (1864-1889) with a map of the ship's cabins printed on the back.

Photograph by Alice Boughton (American, 1865-1943). Image is behind glass in a dark green leather case with gold-tone accents. The interior of the case is lined with green satin. Print information follows.
