Description:

The collection consists of daguerreotypes for which the photographer or studio is currently unknown. The subjects are primarily of people, many unidentified, including men, women, and children, but also included are landscapes and buildings. Identified subjects include: Sir Henry Bessemer, Colonel William Blake (Somerset), Mrs. Collins (mother of Arthur Collins of Drury Lane Theatre fame), Gioacchino Rossini, Scott Bower Scott, and Captain W. A. Thomas. The collection includes examples of hand-colored daguerreotypes, as well as a variety of case types, including embossed leather cases and union cases.

This record does not include daguerreotypes found in named collections or in any of the Literary File photography collections.
