John Frederick "Doc" McGregor (American, 1892-1986) was a studio and news photographer in Corpus Christi, Texas, who freelanced for the Caller</> and Times newspapers. The collection contains approximately 100,000 silver gelatin prints and negatives. The negatives are divided as follows: 260 nitrate 8x10 sheets; 61,000 nitrate 4x5 sheets; 12,000 2-1/4 nitrate strips; and 641 panoramic negatives. The newspaper negatives are arranged by date. The time period represented by the collection is the1930s to the early 1970s, and subjects include studio portraits, panoramic group portraits, businesses, and industrial photography.
Part of the collection is the John McGregor Banquet Prints and Negatives which include 372 prints and 215 negatives. The subject matter represented are business or company photographs, church groups, graduations and activities, military, organizations (lodges, etc.), services (city) and related businesses, and views of cities, parks, and the country. To facilitate access, a viewing set of prints was made from the 8x10-inch nitrate negatives. Approximately 250,000 additional photographs by McGregor are located in Corpus Christi at La Retama Central Library (https://www.cctexas.com/library) and at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History (https://www.ccmuseum.com/).
