Gems of Photographic Art: Photo-Pictures Selected from the Universal Series (Reigate: F. Frith, ca. 1862) is a photographically illustrated book, bound in blue cloth, stamped in gold with gilt edges. It contains 20 albumen prints made between 1856 and circa 1862. The volume includes six photographs by Francis Bedford (British, 1816–1894), two by Robert Eaton (British, 1819–1871), one by Roger Fenton (British, 1819–1869), four by Francis Frith (British, 1816–1894), one by Meatyard (British, active 1860s), and one by Alfred Rosling (British, ca. 1802–1880). Selected by Frith, the photographs showcase a range of landscape and architectural views, primarily of historic landmarks in England, as well as in Scotland, Wales, and Italy. The book is part of the Gernsheim Collection, acquired in 1963.
