Description:

The collection consists of two photographs by Eugène Appert (French, 1830-1891). Both prints, which are from his series "Crimes of the Commune," are photomontages. The scenes depicted were staged after the actual events took place, and then the staged photographs were further doctored and rephotographed to create the final images.
